More About Herbalism
The world of Herbalism is comprised though of over 300,000 different herbs, all growing on our planet. Each herb has the potential to be the right source of new medicine and valuable raw ingredients for humanity.
Herbalism or Phytotherapy is considered to be the oldest medicine in the world, rooted in the relationship between human beings and the rest of nature.
For millennia, humans have found the health benefits of herbs and their assistance in dealing with sickness and diseases. Throughout history, we see this explicitly in myriad cultures all over the world, and how the same herbs are used to treat similar problems in communities distant to each other.
Five thousand years ago the Chinese developed Phyotherapy and were able to find medicinal use of over five thousand herbs. In India, Ayurveda, which is considered the oldest method of herbal medicine in the world, found use of over 250 herbs. Hippocrates was the first person to bring the Phytotherapy into science 2400 years ago, and in his writings he mentioned around 300 types of herbs.
In modern days there is more awareness and attempts to combine traditional and new knowledge with the intention to recognize the active ingredients of the herbs and realize their mechanism in the body.
